Volvo Gets The Largest Order of Electric Trucks in North America

TNI || New Delhi || 2nd Sept 2021

Maersk’s warehousing and distribution company, Performance Team, has gone on to place an order for 16 Volvo VNR Electric Class 8 trucks.

It is the largest commercial zero tailpipe emission order that has ever been given in North America.

This truck model will be the first zero-tailpipe emission, battery-electric Class 8 truck in Performance Team’s fleet, and it is expected to hit the roads by the end of the year.

Once put into service, the trucks will be carrying the regional loads every day to customers across South Carolina. The Volvo VNR Electric is designed specifically for local and regional freight distribution, with an intent to further improve the quality of life of residents’ via decarbonized and quiet transportation across urban streets.

This characteristic would also help in a clean and comfortable work environment for the drivers. Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America, says that inclination towards electric space is an exciting time for commercial trucks, and Performance Team is indeed leading with this largest order.

He adds that through the commitment to deliver 16 Volvo VNR Electric Models by this year-end the company has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability, thereby reducing the trucking industry’s carbon footprint.

The said purchase order is Maersk’s Environment Social Governance (ESG) strategy to decarbonize the logistic spectrum. The purchase of these trucks is through TEC Equipment, Volvo Truck’s largest dealership from the west coast, which was recently given the title of the first Volvo EV certified dealer in North America.
