Switch Mobility To Ply 300 Electric Buses, Made by Ashok Leyland, In Bengaluru

Switch Mobility, which is the British Unit of Commercial Vehicle maker Ashok Leyland Ltd., has confirmed that it shall provide 300 electric buses to Bengaluru’s public transport agency.

As per the contract, which will last for 12 years, Switch will supply, operate, and maintain electric buses for BMTC- Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation.

The 300 buses will reduce fossil fuel consumption by almost 5.5 million litres per year.

Of late, competition in the electric bus market is seeing an unprecedented surge, as countries, provinces, states, and cities are showing their bent towards sustainable transportation.

Ashok Leyland, which happens to be India’s biggest bus maker, has recently formed Switch, which also makes parts of the British bus maker Optare and handles all its global electrification quests.

It is well to be noted that Switch buses are already plying in London, and the company also has plans to begin production of a global electric van by 2024, which will mark its presence in the last mile delivery segment
