PepsiCo Inc is all set to get its first delivery of electric trucks from Tesla Inc in the fourth quarter of the current financial year.
PepsiCo’s chief Ramon Laguarta confirmed the news to a leading media channel. The company reserved 100 Tesla’s electric semi-trucks in December 2017 as it was looking to reduce fuel cost and fleet emission to a considerable extent.
Notably, as per Ramon, transportation accounts for 10% of the company’s gas emissions.
Pepsi had initially said that it looks forward to using the Tesla trucks for shipping snack foods as well as beverages between manufacturing units and distribution centres and to the retail sites as well.
The fleet operator of Walmart Inc, J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc, and Sysco Corp, which is a food distributor, has also placed orders for a similar range of Tesla semi-trucks.
Tesla is indeed on a roll as in the passenger vehicle segment, Hertz, the rental car firm in a statement released last month, had said that it would place an order of 100,000 Tesla cars by 2022 end.
