Hyundai Motor Group has plans to offer hydrogen fuel cell versions for all commercial vehicles in its fleet by 2028.
This step will cut the price of fuel cell vehicles to battery electric levels after two years. Apart from Hyundai Motor Co., the group has Kia Corp under its umbrella, has one fuel cell bus and fuel cell truck, the Xcient Hyundai, in its fleet.
As of now, there are 115 buses and 45 trucks in South Korea in operation. Both the South Korean automakers put together offer 20 commercial vehicle models that include trucks, buses, vans which were sold around 287,000 last year.

The only other fuel cell vehicle from the group is Hyundai’s Nexo SUV. It is well to be noted that the group also has plans to develop fuel cell vehicles for Kia and the premium Genesis brand, which is expected to launch after 2025.

There is no specific target of fuel cell versions for the passenger vehicles as of now. The plans are to go ahead with the hydrogen technology, although it has a relatively niche status, and expand the battery electric vehicle lineup.
