Electric Light Commercial Vehicles Allowed To Ply By Delhi Government On 250 Roads During the No-Entry Hours
Air pollution levels have reached alarming levels in Delhi. And these levels aren’t just for a few months but the entire year.
To give thrust on EV’s, the Delhi Government has taken a never heard before decision.
The government’s transport minister, Kailash Gahlot, has announced that the electric light commercial vehicles will be allowed to ply within the city during the no entry hours.
The entry will be allowed on 250 roads in Delhi. The minister has further said that the transport department will empanel electric kit manufacturers for retrofitting of the internal combustion engines to electric.
As per Gahlot, the EV policies laid down by the government would provide non-financial benefits besides the regular subsidies which the owners already get.
He went on to say that when the EV policy was launched by the government last year, there were only 46 commercial vehicles in existence which have now risen to 1054.
He hopes that the percentage of EV registrations will move to 25% by 2024.
The current percentage stands at around 7%. One of the reasons retrofitting will be crucial is because it will enable the use of diesel vehicles beyond the prescribed 10-year running age.
