Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, which is headquartered in Kawasaki City, has announced that a 43 light-duty large fleet of Canter trucks have been delivered to City Logistics, which is based in Durban, South Africa.
City Logistics, which is a local business, selected the Canter FE7-136 fleet to support its retail distribution and warehousing services.
This vehicle is a 4×2 variant, has a GVW of 7.5 tons, and boasts effective robustness and maneuverability that makes it a perfect model which covers both rural and urban roads stretched across Southern Africa.
City Logistics is located strategically in Durban, the third-most populous city in South Africa, and has the distinction of being a major logistics hub for the African continent.
It is well to be noted that the Infrastructure Fund, which is a Government initiative, is targeting an investment of 100 billion Rand in infrastructure projects over the decade, and therefore is expected to spur on the demand for commercial vehicles further.
Many trucks sold in South Africa, including the Canters delivered to City Logistics, are assembled at the Daimler Trucks & Buses Southern Africa plant in East London, South Africa.
Apart from these light-duty Canters, the South African market also has a lineup of several medium and heavy-duty FUSO trucks such as the FI that comes in 12.8 tons variant and FJ, which hovers between 16 – 27.5 tons.
These get shipped from the Oragadam Plant, Chennai, India, by Daimler India Commercial Vehicles since 2015.
Daimler India is also responsible for the import, assembly, and distribution of Mercedes-Benz trucks and buses in the region.
