The Unimog is always there, where other vehicles have to admit defeat. Time and again that is the view of the readers of “Off Road” magazine, who voted it off-roader of the year in the “Special Vehicles” category for the sixteenth time in a row.

The Unimog was well ahead in first place with 54.7 percent of readers’ votes. The extreme off-road Unimog is highly popular with globetrotters.

As a basic vehicle for travelling on and off metalled roads, and in its lower-weight version with only 7.49 tonnes GVW it can also be driven with a car driver’s licence (grade 3).

Dr. Ralf Forcher, Head of Unimog Sales and Marketing said

“We are delighted with this award even if we could not accept it personally due to the present situation. This is again a show of confidence in our Unimog from the Off Road readership and we thank them immensely for this.

Even after almost 75 years the Unimog is the ultimate off-road vehicle and presently holds the world record for a wheeled vehicle driving at altitude.

Many of its ingenious features such as the three-point mounting system for the living area body make it an ideal vehicle for expeditions beyond tarmacked roads,

In difficult terrain or for journeys to altitudes just below 7000 m on the world’s highest active volcano, as it recently proved,”

This allows Daimler Trucks & Buses to offer its customers around the globe a broad spectrum of commercial vehicles, ranging from minibuses to heavy-duty trucks for special-purpose transport applications – in short: products and solutions for everyone who keeps the world moving.

Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz laid the foundation for the modern transport industry more than 120 years ago.

Over the past decades, Daimler’s truck and bus divisions have consistently set standards for the entire transportation industry – in terms of safety, fuel efficiency and driver and passenger comfort.

Now it’s time for the next evolutionary step: emission-free, automated and connected driving. Daimler Trucks & Buses is working to bring these important technologies to high-volume series production, across brands, divisions and regions.

In this way the company intends to take a major step closer to realising its vision of CO2-neutral transport and accident-free driving whilst also contributing to the sustainability of global goods and passenger transport. In 2019, a total of half a million trucks and buses were delivered.

In 2019 the revenue of the individual areas of business amounted to 40.2 billion € for Daimler Trucks, while Daimler Buses produced a revenue of 4.7 billion €. The EBIT was 2.5 billion € for Daimler Trucks and 283 million € for Daimler Buses.
